I mourn for the loss of these beautiful living columns, which offer such grace and a peaceful sense of place to the mall and across campus. They add such a collegiate majesty to my alma mater, and Mr. Williams is so right to point out their connection to our land-grant history. I'm so glad that experts at Penn State are still trying to find a way to save them. Keep trying! Save the elms!

My husband and I are graduates of University Park (1996 and 1997). I simply can not imagine the campus without the elms, especially that beautiful line of trees on the Mall. The view down the Mall was one of the things that made me want to come to Penn State. As a matter of fact, my class gift was money to help save the elms.

There's got to be something that can be done to save them!

Your going to have to start a spray campaign to kill all leaf hoppers as an answer to the problem. We may stop the disease today but it can restart tomorrow. Killing the bugs is the answer.

I can vividly remember walking to Willard to my biochem class, thru the tunnel of elms, listening to Old Main's chimes! That was in 1981. I hope some can be saved.
